Royal expert compares Duchess’s twerking clip to Fergie’s past controversy
Meghan Markle’s latest viral video—showing her twerking in a hospital ahead of giving birth—would likely have left King Charles “horrified,” according to a royal commentator.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, is said to be “pleased” with the overwhelming response to the clip, which has already drawn more than 40.7 million views. The footage, originally recorded in 2021, was posted last week to mark her daughter’s fourth birthday.
In the video, Meghan and Harry are seen dancing inside a hospital delivery suite to The Baby Momma Dance by Starrkeisha. Meghan lifts her skirt slightly above the knees and twerks with her arms raised and hands on her hips.
Veteran royal expert Jennie Bond called the footage “astonishing,” and suggested it would not sit well with the King. “The hours before you give birth are some of the most personal, intimate and private in the lives of any couple,” she told The Mirror. “Giving birth is a serious business, and anything to lighten the mood is welcome. However, to share those scenes with the world is utterly bizarre and, in my view, takes away all the magic of the moment.”
Bond likened the moment to a past royal scandal, adding, “I can hear the voice of the late Queen’s former private secretary, Lord Charteris, repeating the comments he once made about Fergie: Vulgar, vulgar, vulgar.”
She concluded, “If the King has watched it — which I doubt, although he cannot have missed the headlines — I am sure he would be horrified.”
