Prince William and Catherine Face Staff Backlash Over Royal Priorities

Palace aides voice frustration as Prince and Princess of Wales balance family life with official duties

Prince William and Catherine are reportedly facing growing frustration from palace staff over their current approach to royal duties.

Though the Prince and Princess of Wales remain highly popular with the public, Kensington Palace aides are said to be unhappy with what they view as the couple’s increasing tendency to set their own priorities.

According to The Telegraph’s associate editor Camilla Tominey, the pair are “under growing pressure to up their workload.” Some aides fear they may be spending too much time focused on their immediate family, rather than fully supporting the Royal Family.

Reports suggest a shift in the couple’s attitude has contributed to the tension. Critics argue that while a lighter schedule was understandable in 2024, when Catherine was undergoing cancer treatment, concerns about their commitment to official duties had existed even earlier.

Whispers that the Princess was dubbed a “part-time royal” by some staff had reportedly circulated before her illness. Meanwhile, William’s ability to pursue personal interests—such as attending the Euros in Germany and travelling to South Africa for his Earthshot Prize—has not gone unnoticed.

Catherine, now back to public engagements, remains devoted to her role as a hands-on mother to their children.

Separately, Tominey noted that reconciliation prospects between William and Harry appear dim. The Duke is reportedly “low down” on William’s list of priorities, with sources saying that while William is “no longer as angry as he was,” there is still “no way back” for Harry at present.
