King Charles Opens Royal Cottage for Public Stays Ahead of Summer Break

Charming Sandringham retreat offers guests a taste of royal living

As King Charles prepares to retreat to the Scottish Highlands for his summer holiday, he’s opened the gates of one of the royal estate’s hidden gems to the public.

Nestled within the serene Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, The Gardens House—a former residence of the estate’s head gardener—is now available for holiday rental through Oliver’s Travels. The picturesque cottage offers visitors the unique chance to experience a royal setting first-hand.

Described as a perfect blend of "farmhouse chic," the cottage features a luxurious king-sized bed, cosy interiors, and a peaceful outdoor dining space set against a backdrop of towering pines and centuries-old stone walls. The property has been praised for its warm and inviting design, with HELLO! Homes Editor Rachel Avery noting, “This holiday rental sits right on the Sandringham Estate, so you’ll be sharing the same idyllic walks as the royals.”

Although Sandringham House itself will be closed to the public from July 20 to 29, guests can still explore the estate’s shop, restaurant, and sprawling parkland during their stay.

While the monarch is expected to spend the warmer weeks enjoying the quiet of the Scottish Highlands, the Prince and Princess of Wales are likely to remain closer to home, enjoying their break within the same Norfolk countryside.

For those seeking a peaceful escape with a regal twist, The Gardens House promises a rare and charming opportunity to walk in royal footsteps.
