The monarch received the visiting leader in front of Highgrove’s iconic entrance, where the two held a diplomatic meeting focused on strengthening UK–Papua New Guinea relations. The engagement was described as both relaxed and formal, reflecting the King’s signature approach to diplomacy.
This meeting comes shortly after the King’s brief hospital stay in late March, where he was treated for side effects related to his cancer diagnosis. Now back to a fuller schedule, Charles has resumed key duties, including audiences at Windsor Castle and preparations for a state visit to Italy.
As part of their conversation, the King reportedly reaffirmed his support for a humanitarian aviation initiative set to benefit remote communities in Papua New Guinea—a gesture that underscores the ongoing partnership between the two nations.
Prime Minister Marape, who is on a 10-day tour including stops in the U.S., described the meeting as “an important moment” to discuss shared priorities like biodiversity, climate change, and deeper bilateral ties.
