Subtle nod sparks royal watchers' attention as Duchess marks Fourth of July
Meghan Markle may have sent a quiet but meaningful message of support to Princess Kate as the future Queen continues her recovery from cancer.
On July 4, Meghan released a cheerful video on the Instagram page of her lifestyle brand, As Ever, showing off a colourful fruit platter in celebration of Independence Day. While the Duchess's culinary skills were on full display, it was her wardrobe choice that quickly caught the eye of royal fans.
Meghan wore a familiar striped button-down shirt — the same one she donned at Wimbledon in 2018, when she and Princess Kate made a rare public appearance together at the tennis tournament.
Royal watchers noted the timing and symbolism. Just days earlier, Princess Catherine appeared at Colchester Hospital wearing a similar striped shirt as she planted Catherine’s Rose and shared an emotional update about her cancer journey.
In her heartfelt comments, the Princess of Wales spoke candidly about the difficulties that come after treatment. “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment,” she said. “Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”
Kate revealed her diagnosis in March 2024 through a deeply personal video message. At the time, reports suggested that both Harry and Meghan had privately reached out with wishes for her recovery.
Now, this small style choice by Meghan has sparked speculation that it may have been a subtle nod of solidarity to her sister-in-law during a challenging time.
