The Duke of Sussex faces consequences of past actions as he seeks peace with King Charles
Prince Harry is finding it increasingly difficult to mend ties with the royal family as he attempts to reconcile with his ailing father, King Charles. Once outspoken about his grievances, the Duke of Sussex now appears to be rethinking his approach amid speculation that he feels disconnected from his life in the United States and longs for a return to the UK.
According to former royal butler Paul Burrell, Harry's earlier choices—particularly his candid revelations about family members—may have caused more damage than he anticipated.
“Harry broke all the rules, the ones he was raised to understand,” Burrell said in an interview with Express.co.uk. “He’s gone beyond the limits and spoken words that should never have been uttered.”
Burrell likened Harry’s situation to walking a “tightrope of truth,” warning that any misstep can leave one “battered and bruised.” I have suggested that Harry's actions were deliberate, possibly made without fully realizing the backlash that would follow. Now that the royal family has seemingly distanced itself from the Sussexes, Harry is reportedly trying to regain his footing within the fold.
“He’s bruised because he crossed lines that no royal should,” Burrell explained. “He spoke ill of his grandmother during her final days, criticized his father amid a cancer diagnosis, made remarks about Catherine during her health battle, and attacked his brother, who bears the weight of the monarchy.”
While signs of outreach may be emerging, Burrell warned that rebuilding trust will require more than a few conversations. The situation remains delicate, and progress may be slow.
“This is a tinderbox,” he added. “There'll likely be sparks from across the Atlantic long before there's any real healing back home.”
