Royal admirer proudly reveals tattoo tribute as Queen shares touching laugh during flower show visit
Queen Camilla shared a memorable and touching exchange with a devoted royal fan during her visit to the Sandringham Flower Show this week—one that left Her Majesty both amused and deeply moved.
While meeting members of the public at the long-running event, Camilla was surprised by Phil Smith, 61, from Northampton, who proudly revealed a tattoo of her royal cypher inked on his leg. Lifting his shorts to show off the new tribute, Smith joked that the tattoo had “bloody hurt,” prompting a hearty laugh from the Queen.
In an unexpected twist, Camilla turned to one of her police protection officers and pointed out, “Look, he's got one too,” upon realising that her officer also bore the same design.
Mr. Smith, a lifelong royal supporter, explained that his admiration for Camilla began long before her marriage to King Charles. Over the years, he’s written to her regularly and often received thoughtful replies. “She’s great,” he said, praising her warmth and sense of humour.
Currently, Mr. Smith has four royal tattoos running along the outer side of his left leg, featuring the cyphers of Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III, and now Queen Camilla. Determined to share his latest ink with Her Majesty, he made sure to secure a spot at the front of the crowd during the royal walkabout.
“I love the royal family, and she in particular has a good sense of humour,” he said. “She laughed when she saw the tattoo and told me one of her security men had it done too. That made my day.”
The joyful exchange was one of many special moments during the King and Queen’s appearance at the Sandringham Flower Show, held on the grounds of their Norfolk estate. The royal couple spent the day engaging with visitors, admiring the vibrant displays, and embracing the strong sense of community that has made the show a cherished annual tradition.
