Duchess of York reflects on her enduring love for the Duke of York, reigniting speculation over possible remarriage
Despite being divorced for nearly two decades, Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew continue to live under the same roof at the Royal Lodge in Windsor—fueling ongoing speculation that the pair might one day remarry.
In a candid interview with The Sunday Times, Ferguson, affectionately known as Fergie, opened up about her unwavering bond with the Duke of York. The couple, who wed in 1986 and parted ways a decade later, remain remarkably close. “I was totally and utterly in love with Andrew,” she shared. “And when it comes to marrying him again, I would do it all over again—100 percent.”
Now both 65, the former couple have navigated numerous personal and public challenges together, including the Duke’s withdrawal from royal duties following his 2019 Newsnight interview and continued controversy surrounding his ties to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Despite this, Ferguson has remained steadfast in her support. “He’s the best—a great man with a great heart,” she said.
Reflecting on their royal wedding nearly 40 years ago, Ferguson called it “the best day of my life,” and credited love as the force that carried her through the loss of anonymity and into enduring loyalty. “It’s still with us today,” she added.
The couple share two daughters and have remained a united front despite the Duke being stripped of his patronages and sidelined at royal events. Ferguson remains publicly loyal: “I won’t let him down,” she insisted. “He supports me as much as I support him. We agree on the three Cs—communication, compromise, compassion.”
Ferguson also touched on her deep roots within the royal family, including her long-standing affection for King Charles. “I’ve known the King all my life, and I absolutely adore him,” she said, recalling fond pranks from their younger days. She revealed that his wife, Queen Camilla, was once close friends with her mother, which helped forge their current bond.
Speaking of the late Princess Diana, Ferguson offered a touching tribute: “She was my best friend from the age of 14.”
Although both Ferguson and the Duke remained publicly silent on the anniversary of their royal wedding this year, the Duchess’s latest comments have only intensified public curiosity. Whether the former couple ever remarry remains to be seen—but their continued closeness tells its own story.
