Duke recalls moment he says ruined by their advice
Harry has admitted that one of the lowest points in his life came when he wore a Nazi uniform to a party in 2005 — a decision he says was influenced by William and Catherine.
In his memoir Spare, the Duke of Sussex wrote that he telephoned them before the event to ask whether he should choose the Nazi outfit. "Nazi uniform, they said," he recalled, adding that when he tried it on at home, "They both howled. Worse than Willy's leotard outfit! Way more ridiculous! Which, again, was the point."
The incident took place at a “Native and Colonial”-themed party and quickly became a global scandal. Harry, who has described it as “one of the biggest mistakes of my life,” addressed the controversy in both his memoir and Netflix docu-series Harry & Meghan.
“I felt so ashamed afterwards,” he said. “All I wanted to do was make it right.” Following the backlash, Harry met London's chief rabbi and visited Berlin to speak with a Holocaust survivor, experiences he says profoundly changed his perspective and helped him confront unconscious bias.
