Expert says Netflix project risks damaging reconciliation efforts
Prince Harry has been warned that his next move with Meghan Markle could spark fresh tensions with King Charles, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment.
Reports suggest the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are preparing to make a Netflix documentary about Princess Diana, following the renewal of their multi-million-dollar deal with the streaming giant.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams cautioned that while Harry’s devotion to his late mother is well known, revisiting her turbulent history could come at a heavy price.
“This could be it,” he told Express. “From his memoir Spare, we know how deep Harry’s affection for his mother was and how devastated he was at her passing. That’s completely understandable. But if the documentary features anything controversial, it would gravely endanger the reconciliation Harry has said he wants with his family.”
The expert praised Diana’s “legendary” humanitarian legacy but warned that focusing on her fractured relationships with Charles and Camilla would be particularly risky.
“Of course, it would draw the audience Netflix wants,” Fitzwilliams explained. “But it carries enormous dangers for Harry’s future relationships with his family—especially if it highlights the rivalry between Diana and Camilla.”
The warning comes as speculation grows over delicate peace talks between Buckingham Palace and Montecito, with Harry’s next steps under close watch.
