King Charles’ Surprisingly Normal Reaction After Phone Mix-Up

Monarch keeps his cool when mistaken for a takeaway service

Even King Charles isn’t safe from a wrong number.

Grant Harrold, who served as Charles’ butler from 2004 to 2011 at Highgrove House, has revealed that the monarch once received a bizarre call on his private phone from someone trying to order Chinese food.

“I remember once somebody got hold of the King’s private phone and they phoned him up thinking he was a Chinese takeaway,” Harrold recalled while promoting his memoir The Royal Butler: My Remarkable Life of Royal Service. “They put in an order, trying to get a Chinese. He just said, ‘I’m not a Chinese takeaway, you’ve got the wrong number.’ But they kept phoning him back.”

When the callers refused to believe him, Charles had to ask staff to step in and explain that they had the wrong number.

Harrold said the lighthearted incident reflected the King’s level-headed and approachable nature, showing a “normal” side of royal life that most people rarely get to see.
