Duke of Sussex focuses on reconciliation while keeping his family a priority
Harry may be travelling alone on his latest visit to London, but Meghan Markle remains firmly on his mind during key engagements.
The Duke of Sussex, who arrived on Monday to attend the WellChild Awards, is also set to meet with representatives of his other charities, including the Invictus Games and the Diana Award.
Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 to build an independent life. Their departure led to a strained relationship with the royal family, but after years of distance, signs of reconciliation between Harry and King Charles appear to be emerging.
Despite the delicate nature of these talks, Harry has made it clear that Meghan and their children, Archie and Lilibet, will remain his top priority.
On Tuesday, the Duke is scheduled to visit Nottingham, a city tied to happier memories for the couple, as it was their first public appearance together after announcing their engagement in 2017. Royal expert Phil Dampier told The Sun: “It brings back memories of happier times when we thought they were going to be royal superstars. It will be fascinating to see how he is received by the public.”
Former royal correspondent Jennie Bond added that it would be natural for Meghan to feel uneasy about her husband being pulled back into the royal fold. She noted Meghan might have “conflicting emotions” about a possible meeting between Harry and his father, though it is likely the couple discussed the matter beforehand.
While Meghan and the children are not expected to be directly involved in these reconciliation efforts for now, observers believe the topic will inevitably come up if talks between Harry and King Charles progress smoothly.
