King Charles Shares Heartfelt Tribute as Prince Harry Returns to the UK

Palace marks Queen Elizabeth’s third death anniversary while speculation grows over father–son reunion

King Charles has issued an emotional message to mark the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.

On September 8, Buckingham Palace released a radiant portrait of the late monarch, who died in 2022 at the age of 96, with the caption: “Remembering Queen Elizabeth II, 1926–2022.”

The tribute came just hours before Prince Harry touched down in London for the 2025 WellChild Awards. The Duke of Sussex, dressed in black as he departed California, is also due to travel to Nottingham on Tuesday for charitable work linked to his patronages.

Harry’s return has reignited speculation of a private meeting with his father, who is currently at Balmoral with Queen Camilla. The monarch, who continues his cancer treatment, is believed to be weighing whether to receive his youngest son during the visit.

Friends of Harry told The Times that he remains hopeful of building bridges with his family. “He’s not given up hope on bringing his family back to the UK,” one confidant said. “He wants to be able to show his children where he grew up. He wants them to know their family here. He really would like to come back to the UK much more.”

So far, neither Buckingham Palace nor Harry’s team has confirmed if a reunion between father and son will take place.
