Duke of Sussex draws global curiosity with ongoing family drama
Prince Harry has been named the most Googled royal, overtaking every other member of the British royal family in online searches over the past year. According to a new report by Click Intelligence, data from Google between September 2024 and August 2025 shows the Duke of Sussex receiving about 2.2 million searches, more than anyone else in the monarchy.
Digital marketing expert and Click Intelligence co-founder Simon Brisk explained that the fascination comes from the tension surrounding Harry and Meghan Markle. “People aren’t searching to understand their place in the monarchy. They’re searching to follow their story,” he said, adding that their decision to step back from royal duties while still holding titles keeps public interest high. Brisk described them as “royals who chose to walk away” but who remain at the centre of intrigue, balancing tradition and disruption.
Brisk also noted that curiosity about Harry is fuelled by unresolved family issues, with every rumour of a reconciliation with King Charles III or Prince William sparking fresh waves of searches. “It’s like an ongoing series, and people want to know what happens next,” he said.
While Harry leads overall searches, other royals have seen spikes too. Catherine, Princess of Wales reached around 135,000 searches last September after announcing she was cancer-free. King Charles saw similar surges in 2023 during his coronation and again in January 2024 following his cancer diagnosis.
Harry is currently in the United Kingdom for a four-day visit, beginning with the WellChild Awards on September 8, which celebrate the resilience and achievements of children and young people living with serious illnesses or disabilities.
