Rare diplomatic visa may secure Duke of Sussex’s future in America
Prince Harry may have found an answer to the ongoing scrutiny of his US immigration status — and it could come in the form of a so-called “golden ticket.”
According to documents linked to the Trump administration, the Duke of Sussex could be holding an A-1 Head of State visa, a rare diplomatic pass usually reserved for foreign royals.
The news follows months of legal disputes over whether Harry disclosed his past drug use — something he admitted to in his 2023 memoir Spare — when applying to live in the US in 2020. The Heritage Foundation argued that his records should be made public, but in March a federal judge ruled his visa details would remain private.
Immigration lawyer Melissa Chavin told the Daily Mail that an A-1 visa could explain the secrecy: “The Department of State vets and issues the A-1 visa with little input from the Department of Homeland Security. I would expect that Prince Harry had an A-1 visa every year of his life… Each entry will be permitted for an indefinite period of time called ‘duration of status.’ For him, that is all of his life.”
If true, the visa would give the Duke of Sussex the right to remain in the United States indefinitely, allowing him to continue life in California with Meghan Markle and their children, Archie and Lilibet.
