The Duchess of Sussex says she made a quick trip to California to spend a day with Archie and Lilibet before returning to a busy schedule.
Meghan Markle recently spoke about making a short but meaningful trip home to California in the middle of a hectic travel schedule. During her appearance at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington, D.C., the Duchess shared that she flew back to see her children, Archie and Lilibet, before resuming her string of public engagements.
Her visit to the U.S. capital followed a solo appearance at Paris Fashion Week and came just before she joined Harry in New York City. The couple were honoured with the Humanitarian of the Year award at Project Healthy Minds’ World Mental Health Day Gala. But before heading to New York, Meghan made an unexpected detour across the country.
Fortune’s Editor-in-Chief Alyson Shontell brought up the brief trip during their onstage discussion. “You’ve been all over the place… and you made it home for one day to see your kids?” she asked. Meghan laughed and replied, “Yes, I had to! Everyone thought I went straight from Paris to New York, but I said, ‘No, I need to see my babies.’ So I went back to California for a day and then continued on.”
The conversation also touched on the Duke and Duchess’s renewed partnership with Netflix. The couple first signed a five-year deal in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties. In August, Netflix announced a new multi-year first-look agreement with their company, Archewell Productions, allowing them to pitch film and television projects directly to the platform.
Speaking about the new arrangement, Meghan said, “My husband and I were in an overall deal with Netflix then, not dissimilar to Higher Ground and the Obamas’ deal. Once that came to its term, the extension — which was such an incredible sign of the strength of our partnership — became a first-look deal.”
