King Charles reportedly loses patience as royal experts urge Andrew to accept responsibility and step away quietly.
Prince Andrew is said to be facing the final chapter of his royal life as his past indiscretions continue to cast a shadow over the monarchy. After losing his military titles and royal patronages in 2019—an action taken by Queen Elizabeth following his association with Jeffrey Epstein—the Duke of York has struggled to regain public favour.
Last year, King Charles withdrew Andrew’s security funding but stopped short of evicting him from the Royal Lodge after the duke produced a lease valid until 2078. However, new controversies have surfaced, leaving the King reportedly “exasperated.”
Royal commentators say that Andrew’s attempts to distance himself from his scandals are no longer working. Daily Mail columnist Sarah Vine remarked that it’s time for the Duke to “accept some responsibility.” She added that if he truly cares about his family and the monarchy, he should “go without being pushed.”
The Sun’s Matt Wilkinson echoed this view, suggesting that if Andrew had “even an honourable bone in his body,” he would leave the country. Experts also noted that both Queen Elizabeth’s protection and King Charles’s patience have allowed him to linger in royal circles longer than expected.
But that tolerance appears to be fading. Reports suggest that Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have been labelled a “liability” to the royal family and are being excluded from this year’s Christmas gathering at Sandringham, along with other future events.
Vine concluded that Andrew still has a small window to leave with dignity while King Charles is in charge—but when Prince William ascends the throne, “the game is finally up.”
