The Duchess of York distances herself from public life following controversy over her past ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
Sarah Ferguson has reportedly made an emotional decision to step away from public life to shield her daughters, their daughters, from further controversy. The Duchess of York’s move comes after a wave of backlash over her resurfaced email exchange with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Ferguson, who once called Epstein her “steadfast, generous and supreme friend,” faced renewed criticism when the 2011 correspondence was leaked in September. The email contradicted her earlier public statement condemning Epstein, in which she said, “I abhor paedophilia.” Following the uproar, her spokesperson said she “deeply regrets” sending the message, explaining that it was written under “threats” from Epstein.
The damage, however, was already done. Several charities quickly cut ties with the Duchess, marking another setback for her reputation and standing.
Royal observers believe Ferguson’s recent silence on social media—particularly during her daughter Eugenie’s seventh wedding anniversary on October 12—is part of a conscious effort to step back. Eugenie had shared a photo celebrating the occasion, but her mother, who usually reacts warmly to such posts, remained notably quiet.
According to royal insiders, Ferguson’s decision reflects her desire to protect her daughters from the consequences of her own controversies. The move, though painful, suggests that the Duchess is prioritising her family’s peace over her public presence.
