Sarah Ferguson Could Face Loss of Another Title at York Council Meeting

Duchess of York under renewed pressure as Epstein emails resurface

Sarah Ferguson may soon lose another honorary title as scrutiny grows over her past ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

In recent days, the Duchess of York has come under renewed public and media attention after emails she sent to the disgraced financier resurfaced. A spokesperson explained that Sarah only sent the message after Epstein had threatened to sue her, but the clarification has done little to ease the criticism.

As the controversy builds, several charities have already distanced themselves from the Duchess, and calls for her to be stripped of her remaining honors have intensified. Reports suggest that she is now at risk of losing the Honorary Freedom of the City of York, a distinction originally granted to her and Prince Andrew in 1987 as a wedding gift.

According to the Mirror, York councillors could make a decision on the matter as early as November. Councillor Claire Douglas, leader of the City of York Council, told the Daily Mail:

“A full Council meeting of all City of York councillors next takes place in November. Consideration will be given in advance of that meeting to whether a motion to remove the Honorary Freedom title from the Duchess of York is tabled.”

For context, the Duke of York lost his own Freedom of the City title in 2022 following widespread public pressure.
