Why a small moment shared online is fuelling fresh hopes of reconciliation
King Charles appears to be keeping Harry and Meghan Markle close, despite the strain that has lingered since the couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
A recent Instagram post on the official royal family account, highlighting Queen Camilla’s Christmas gathering at Clarence House, included a subtle but telling detail. In the video, viewers could spot a family photograph from Harry and Meghan’s wedding day, showing Charles walking arm in arm with Meghan after her father, Thomas Markle, was unable to attend. The image was first noted by OK! Magazine.
For many royal watchers, the decision to feature that particular photo felt deliberate. It suggested that, behind the scenes, Charles still hopes for a warmer relationship with his son and daughter-in-law, even as public tensions continue.
Sources also point to a private meeting between Charles and Harry in September, their first face-to-face in around 18 months. The reunion is said to have been a positive step, but one that reportedly took Prince William by surprise.
According to an insider speaking to Rob Shuter’s blog, William believed his father was in London solely for cancer treatment and official engagements. He was allegedly unaware that Harry would be there and was not consulted about the meeting. The source claimed that, had William known, he would have tried to stop it, which is why Charles chose to proceed quietly.
Taken together, the carefully chosen photo and the discreet reunion paint a picture of a king who, despite family rifts, is still leaving the door open for reconciliation.
