Latest ratings reveal who the public’s favourite royal really is

New polling shows where public approval now sits across the royal family

Meghan Markle’s popularity in the UK reached a high point in 2019, when 55 per cent of people viewed her favourably. A year later, she and her husband, Harry, stepped back from royal duties, a move that sparked fierce debate among royal supporters and critics alike.

During their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Duke of Sussex suggested tensions inside the family were fuelled by how easily Meghan connected with the public, particularly during their tour of Australia.

“I just wish that we would all learn from the past. But to see how effortless it was for Meghan to come into the family so quickly in Australia and just be able to connect with people,” he said.

While Meghan continued to dominate headlines, recent figures suggest public approval now lies elsewhere. According to a new YouGov poll, King Charles is viewed positively by 60 per cent of respondents. Meghan Markle, by contrast, stands at 19 per cent.

Her dip in popularity comes alongside fresh questions about her media career. A source told The Sun that Netflix is rethinking its relationship with the couple after their high-profile deal in 2020, reportedly worth $100 million.

“The deal is done; no more shows will be made. Netflix feel they’ve got all they can from the couple,” the insider claimed. “They pulled in huge audiences for the first documentary series and knew that would likely be the peak.”

Meanwhile, the most popular royals remain the Prince and Princess of Wales. William holds an approval rating of 77 per cent, with Catherine close behind at 74 per cent, making them the clear favourites with the British public.
