Meghan Markle may be changing the way she presents herself in public, and royal watchers are taking notice.
Her latest appearance with Prince Harry at the Sundance Film Festival in Salt Lake City has sparked fresh discussion about how the couple now carry themselves. Body language expert Judi James analysed their behaviour at the screening held at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center and believes Meghan, in particular, is signalling a shift in image.
Instead of her usual polished, high-profile outfits, Meghan chose a simple black long-sleeved top and jeans. Harry also dressed casually, wearing a puffer jacket layered over a dark top and gilet, paired with grey jeans. The overall look was noticeably more relaxed and understated than what the pair are typically seen wearing at public events.
According to James, this change goes beyond clothing. Speaking to Express.co.uk, she suggested the moment looked like “something of a rebrand for Meghan,” pointing to both her styling and body language.
Throughout the event, Meghan appeared comfortable taking a lower-key role. At times, she stood facing the camera with what James described as a modest smile, even hooking one thumb casually into her jeans pocket. The expert also noted that Meghan avoided placing herself at the centre of group photos, instead allowing Harry to pose with their host while she stood slightly to the side.
James added that there was a clear difference in how close the couple stood compared to previous appearances. There were no hand-holding or affectionate gestures that have often defined their public image in the past.
Instead, she believes their positioning suggested a desire not to draw attention away from the hosts or the stars of the event. “They seem to be posing in a way that won’t upstage anyone,” she said.
Taken together, the expert believes the moment reflects a more casual, non-royal approach from both Meghan and Harry, with Meghan particularly appearing keen to step back and keep things simple.
