The Duchess is also expected to join Harry at a UK event later this summer

Meghan Markle has publicly shown her support for Harry after he spoke out in defence of British troops following remarks made by US President Donald Trump.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump claimed NATO forces “stayed a little off the front lines” during the conflict and suggested the United States had “never needed” its allies, despite triggering NATO’s collective defence clause after the 9/11 attacks.

Responding to the comments, Harry, who completed two frontline tours in Afghanistan with the Army Air Corps, reflected on his own experience of the war. He said he had served alongside fellow soldiers, formed lifelong friendships and lost friends in the conflict.

He also highlighted the human cost of the war, noting that thousands of lives were permanently changed, parents buried their children, and many children grew up without a parent. He added that these sacrifices deserved to be spoken about honestly and with respect.

Official UK figures show that 405 of the 457 British service personnel who died in Afghanistan were killed in hostile action. The United States is reported to have lost more than 2,400 troops.

Amid the debate, Meghan shared a series of photos on Instagram showing Harry during his military service. The images also referenced his role as patron of the Invictus Games, a cause closely linked to his time in uniform.
