Meghan Markle reportedly raised concerns with King Charles after feeling she was being treated differently under royal rules.
According to royal commentator Neil Sean, Meghan wrote a letter to the King questioning why she and Harry were restricted from using their royal titles for commercial work, while others appeared to face no such limits.
Speaking on his YouTube channel in 2023, Sean claimed Meghan wanted direct answers from the monarch. He said she requested a one-to-one meeting to explain the difficulties she has experienced since joining the royal family.
Sean explained that Meghan’s main frustration centred on Sarah Ferguson, who continued to use the title Duchess of York while promoting her books and appearing on television shows such as This Morning and Loose Women.
“The thing that really riles Meghan is that Fergie pops up on these shows billing herself as the Duchess of York, selling books and possibly doing adverts under the Royal Family,” Sean said.
He added that Meghan and Harry could not understand why different rules appeared to apply.
It is worth noting that Queen Elizabeth II rejected the couple’s proposal to become part-time working royals when they stepped back from royal duties in 2020. As part of that agreement, they were reportedly told not to use their HRH titles for business purposes.
However, last year Meghan appeared to use her title on a handwritten gift card that was shown publicly by her friend Jamie Kern during a podcast, which reignited debate over the issue.
