Royal commentator says Meghan’s strong start to 2026 could change the dynamics back in Britain
Prince William and Catherine have been told to brace themselves amid growing speculation that Meghan Markle could return to the UK for the first time in several years.
Royal commentator Shane Watson suggests the Duchess of Sussex has begun 2026 on a strong footing, increasing the likelihood of a visit. Much of the renewed attention centres on Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, after a brief technical glitch on its website appeared to reveal internal stock figures.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, Watson claimed the error allowed online sleuths to estimate that sales of Meghan’s fruit spread may have reached as much as £26.7 million, giving her business fresh momentum.
At the same time, Harry is awaiting the outcome of his security review ahead of the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. That development has fuelled further talk that Meghan could accompany him to the UK, marking her first visit since 2022.
Watson argued that, of all the royals, William and Catherine would feel the greatest impact if the Sussexes returned to Britain. He said Meghan’s recent success has shifted the narrative around her, making any appearance far more charged than in previous years.
He added that Meghan would not be returning as a low-profile supporting spouse, nor as a figure seeking rehabilitation after past business setbacks. Instead, she would arrive, he said, as a successful California-based entrepreneur, confident in her financial independence and public profile.
According to Watson, that change in status could make the situation particularly uncomfortable for the Waleses and far more compelling for royal watchers, as Meghan’s presence would now come with a renewed sense of power, success, and attention.
