Prince William appears to have had a change of heart when it comes to Prince Harry’s long running fight for security in the UK. In a surprising shift, new reports suggest the Prince of Wales now better understands why his brother has been so vocal and determined on the issue.
According to Closer Magazine, William and Kate Middleton have developed a deeper sense of empathy for Harry and Meghan after experiencing several alarming security breaches themselves. The incidents have reportedly made the risks feel personal rather than hypothetical.
Last month, an intruder identified as Derek Egan entered the grounds of Kensington Palace twice just days before Christmas. That followed another disturbing episode in October 2024, when two masked individuals forced their way through a gate and climbed a six foot fence at Windsor Castle while William, Kate, and their three children were asleep nearby at Adelaide Cottage. Earlier in June, another trespasser was arrested at the castle and found to be carrying drugs.
A royal insider says these experiences have shifted William’s perspective in a meaningful way. He now understands the fears Harry has raised about his family’s safety in the UK on a personal level.
“This experience made William understand Harry’s point emotionally, not intellectually,” the source explained. “When someone breaches your home, the fear stops being theoretical. You stop debating policy and start thinking like a parent.”
While tensions between the brothers remain unresolved, the insider says William and Kate no longer dismiss Harry’s security concerns. “William still disagrees with how Harry handled many things, but he has lived the fear himself now,” the source said. “Kate understands why Harry pushed so hard and has said this is the one issue where she truly feels for him.”
The source added that the incidents cut through years of conflict. “Fear strips everything else away. Pride, anger, old arguments. What’s left is instinct. It stopped being about debates and became about protecting your children.”
For William and Kate, those moments appear to have brought a level of empathy that had been missing before, even as the wider royal rift continues.
