Why Prince Harry mentioned Meghan Markle in his privacy case as he described 'absolute misery'

Prince Harry has explained why he brought Meghan Markle into his legal battle with the British press, saying the media’s actions have caused his wife “absolute misery.”

The Duke of Sussex made the comments while testifying at London’s High Court in his case against Associated Newspapers Ltd (ANL), the publisher of two UK tabloids. Harry and six other claimants, including Elton John, accuse the papers of invading their privacy and using unlawful methods to gather information.

An emotional Harry said reliving the events in court had been deeply distressing. “Having to sit here and go through this all over again and have them claim I don’t have any right to privacy is disgusting,” he told the court. “It’s a horrible experience, and the worst part is that by standing up to them, they keep coming after me. They’ve made my wife’s life an absolute misery.”

He also spoke about his former girlfriend Chelsy Davy, claiming the publisher was the first to make her name public. Harry said the intrusion that followed was “terrifying” for her and made her feel as though she was being hunted.

“Their behaviour and treatment of Chelsy was not normal,” he said. “I was really worried that something bad was going to happen.”

Royal commentator Angela Levin later weighed in on the situation, questioning Harry’s focus on his past relationship. In a social media post, she said Meghan had recently told people in the US that she was happier than ever and grateful for a supportive husband. Levin suggested Meghan might not be pleased that Harry was again speaking publicly about Chelsy Davy.

She added that Meghan prefers to stay close to major developments and attention surrounding her husband’s actions.
