Newly released documents have cast fresh doubt on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s long-standing claim that he cut ties with Jeffrey Epstein in 2010.
During his now-infamous 2019 interview with BBC Newsnight, Andrew insisted he had severed contact with Epstein years earlier. However, material disclosed as part of the Epstein files suggests that the two remained in communication well after that point, contradicting his public account.
The documents include email exchanges that shed light on the depth of their connection. According to the correspondence, Epstein was not only in contact with Andrew but also involved in personal and financial matters linked to his family. This reportedly included helping Sarah Ferguson manage her debts and discussing potential investment ideas.
One email attributed to Sarah Ferguson was sent after she became embroiled in a tabloid sting in 2010. In it, she described feeling isolated and distressed, while also expressing interest in working for Epstein in a role connected to managing his properties.
The disclosures also show that Ferguson was not the only one to confide in Epstein. In a separate email exchange, Andrew himself appeared to vent frustrations about his royal role, describing a retreat he framed as time away from the pressures and demands of public life.
The revelations have reinforced criticism surrounding Andrew’s past behaviour and judgement. In the aftermath of the scandal, he was stripped of his honorary titles and roles and removed from public-facing duties. His position within the Royal Family has since been marginalised, with his future continuing to be shaped by the fallout from his association with Epstein.
The latest disclosures are likely to renew scrutiny of Andrew’s earlier statements and raise further questions about transparency within the monarchy during that period.
