Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce humanitarian visit to Jordan

Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle have announced plans for a two-day humanitarian visit to Jordan, despite no longer being working members of the Royal Family.

The couple will travel alongside Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, to spotlight a growing global health crisis, particularly in regions affected by conflict.

According to details shared by representatives for the Sussexes, the visit will include meetings with WHO partner organisations and frontline workers involved in health care and mental wellness initiatives. The trip is intended to draw attention to the pressures facing vulnerable communities and the urgent need for coordinated international support.

The Jordan visit also builds on Harry’s long-standing involvement in global health advocacy. He played a visible role in promoting vaccine equity during the COVID-19 pandemic and has continued to engage with health experts on related issues. Last September, he met Dr Tedros at Imperial College London’s Centre for Blast Injury Studies to discuss the long-term impact of conflict on physical and mental health.

In the lead-up to the announcement, questions were raised about whether the trip signalled a political stance on ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. A source dismissed that suggestion, saying the couple’s focus remains firmly humanitarian.

“They are pro-family and pro-children, and their philanthropic work reflects a deep-rooted care for humanity,” the source said.

The visit reinforces Harry and Meghan’s post-royal focus on international advocacy, using their platform to support health and wellbeing initiatives in some of the world’s most challenging environments.
