New claims suggest tensions behind palace doors escalated quickly following Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018, leaving Prince William increasingly uneasy about the atmosphere within the household.
According to a report cited by Radar Online, author Russek Myers writes in his book William and Catherine: The Inside Story that the calm working environment William and Catherine had carefully built began to unravel just days after the royal wedding.
Myers claims William found Meghan “difficult” and was troubled by what he viewed as rude behaviour towards staff during an already high-pressure period. One insider described the time as chaotic, saying employees were exhausted from wedding preparations and struggling to cope.
“It was a very stressful time. Tensions were high, people were running on empty,” the source said, adding that William reportedly apologised to staff on behalf of his brother on more than one occasion.
The insider also alleged that the positive workplace culture William and Catherine had fostered was quickly lost. “They had spent a long time creating a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, and within a few months it was gone. Staff were leaving regularly. It was horrendous,” the source claimed.
Concerns reportedly deepened as William and Catherine began to worry that Meghan and Harry were leaving a negative impression on palace employees. Sources cited “constant complaints” and described an environment where nothing ever seemed good enough.
In the book, Myers writes that attempts by William and Catherine to raise these concerns with Harry and Meghan ended badly. “The resulting exchange did not bode well for the future,” he noted.
The author further claims that Harry and Meghan refused to accept responsibility for the departure of two of Meghan’s personal assistants or for what was described as a desperate and stressful working atmosphere. Myers alleges that William directly accused Meghan of being difficult and rude, with emotions running high on all sides.
“The whole atmosphere was ugly,” the author concluded, suggesting these early clashes laid the groundwork for the deeper rift that later emerged within the Royal Family.
