Prince William has shared his excitement after confirming that India will host the Earthshot Prize in 2026, with Mumbai selected as the host city.
Kensington Palace released a video message from the Prince of Wales alongside the announcement. In the post, the palace said the Earthshot Prize would be heading to India for its sixth edition, adding that the team could not be more excited to bring the event to Mumbai this November.
Speaking in the video, William said the prize must continue to look to the future with urgency and optimism. He added that he was delighted Mumbai would host the Earthshot Prize in 2026, calling the city a fitting place to spotlight innovative solutions to global environmental challenges.
Mumbai now joins a list of previous host cities that includes Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town, Singapore, Boston and London. The prize, founded by Prince William, was created to inspire a decade of urgent optimism and environmental action by supporting ideas that can help repair and protect the planet.
The Mumbai celebration is expected to bring together environmental and business leaders, investors and philanthropists who are driving real change. The awards night will see five Earthshot winners each receive £1 million to help scale their solutions and increase their impact.
The most recent Earthshot Prize awards took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, marking the first time the event was held in Latin America. The ceremony, hosted at the Museum of Tomorrow on 5 November, was described as a major milestone that highlighted Brazil’s growing role on the global climate stage.
