Kris Jenner is looking back at the moment her youngest daughter, Kylie Jenner, decided to take a huge risk that eventually changed her life.
Speaking on a recent episode of the SmartLess podcast, the famous momager opened up about how Kylie’s now-successful beauty brand first began. According to Kris, the idea came from Kylie herself, who was certain about what she wanted her future to look like.
Kris recalled that Kylie told her beauty was the career she wanted to pursue long-term. She had already imagined creating a Lip Kit and asked her mother to help figure out how to turn the concept into a real business.
At the time, Kris said she immediately began reaching out to industry contacts to see whether the idea could actually work. She also encouraged her daughter to think seriously about the business side of the plan, especially marketing.
Kris remembered asking what the marketing strategy would be and suggested traditional promotion such as magazine advertisements and billboards. But Kylie, confident in her own vision, reassured her mother that she knew exactly what she was doing.
The moment also came with a lot of nerves for Kris. She explained that Kylie had invested every dollar she had earned from Keeping Up with the Kardashians into starting the brand on her own.
For Kris, that was the most worrying part. Kylie was only 17 at the time, and the thought that her daughter had put all her savings into a single idea made her anxious about the possibility of failure.
Despite those fears, the gamble paid off. The Lip Kit launch in 2015 quickly grew into a massive cosmetics brand, turning Kylie’s passion into one of the most talked-about beauty businesses in the world.
