Prince William and Catherine Welcome Nigerian President on King Charles’ Behalf

Royal couple step in as historic state visit begins at Windsor Castle

The Prince and Princess of Wales represented King Charles as they formally welcomed Nigeria’s president at the start of a significant state visit to the United Kingdom.

Prince William and Catherine greeted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Wednesday, as the couple arrived for their official trip. The royal pair appeared polished and composed, setting the tone for the high-profile diplomatic occasion before the visiting guests proceeded to meet the King.

Earlier, Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla would host the Nigerian president and the First Lady at Windsor Castle as part of the visit’s formal programme.

The palace also highlighted the importance of the occasion, noting that this is Nigeria’s first state visit to the UK in 37 years. Previous visits took place in 1973, 1981 and 1989 during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

The visit is expected to strengthen ties between the two nations, while showcasing the royal family’s ongoing role in supporting the King’s diplomatic engagements.
