Edward and Sophie expected to play bigger roles in the monarchy’s future
Prince William is said to be relying on two trusted members of the royal family as he prepares for his future role as King.
The Prince of Wales reportedly sees his uncle, Prince Edward, and aunt, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, as dependable figures who can help strengthen the monarchy in the years ahead. Their steady presence and continued royal duties are believed to make them valuable allies within the institution.
Royal expert Jennie Bond shared her thoughts on their growing importance while speaking to the Mirror. She explained that with the number of working royals becoming smaller, Edward and Sophie have taken on increasingly significant responsibilities.
“With the depletion of the working royals, Edward and Sophie have become ever more important in supporting the monarchy,” Bond said. “I’m sure they will continue to have key roles when William becomes King.”
She also highlighted Sophie’s popularity and approachable personality, noting that it has helped her connect easily with the public.
“Sophie, in particular, has a girl-next-door charm that she has never lost, even though she is now a very senior member of the royal family,” Bond explained. “She is immensely relatable, with no airs or graces, and she has a close and very relaxed relationship with her nephew, William.”
Bond added that Edward and Sophie are known to support each other closely, especially during challenging times within the royal family. Their partnership, she said, allows them to discuss matters openly and offer valuable support behind the scenes.
As the monarchy continues to evolve, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are expected to remain important figures, helping provide stability and support as William eventually steps into his role as King.
