Senior royals expected to appear together at Commonwealth Day service amid speculation about the monarch’s future
Members of the Royal Family are preparing to present a united front as speculation grows that King Charles could step down as monarch within the next year.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that several senior royals will join the King at next week’s Commonwealth Day celebrations, a move many see as a clear display of solidarity within the monarchy.
According to an announcement shared by Majesty Magazine on X, the King and Queen will attend the annual Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration at Westminster Abbey on Monday, 9 March. They will be joined by William and Catherine, Princess Anne with Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.
The palace also confirmed that the King and Queen, along with the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, will host the Commonwealth Day Reception at St James’s Palace on the same day.
The service at Westminster Abbey is expected to welcome around 1,800 guests, making it one of the major events on the royal calendar.
The announcement comes as reports circulate suggesting that the monarch could hand over the throne to his eldest son within the next 12 months due to health concerns.
Royal commentator Rob Shuter recently claimed that discussions about succession may already be taking place behind palace walls. Citing sources close to the situation, he suggested that the King’s health could be presented as the official reason if such a decision were made.
According to the insider quoted by the expert, the broader aim would be to safeguard the stability of the monarchy.
While there has been no confirmation from Buckingham Palace and no formal constitutional process announced, the speculation has continued to gain attention.
For now, the upcoming Commonwealth Day events are expected to highlight the Royal Family standing together during a period of intense public interest in the future of the crown.
