The four-day visit is being seen as a key test of the King's diplomatic abilities at a time when relations between Britain and the United States are facing several challenges.
Charles and Queen Camilla are set to be welcomed by Donald Trump and Melania Trump at the White House. The trip will include a formal state dinner and a series of major meetings in Washington, DC.
The visit comes during a sensitive period for ties between the two nations, with disagreements over Iran, Ukraine, NATO spending and trade matters.
Former BBC presenter Laura Trevelyan told People Magazine that this could be the most high-pressure foreign visit of Charles' reign, noting tensions between London and Washington on several global issues.
She added that the trip would not only test the King's diplomatic skills but also highlight his reputation for handling difficult political relationships.
The visit will also take place during celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. Charles is expected to address a joint session of Congress, following a historic royal tradition set by his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Security concerns have also surrounded the trip after a gunman reportedly disrupted the White House Correspondents Dinner attended by the president. Despite the incident, officials confirmed the visit would continue as planned.
Royal author Robert Jobson described the meeting as one of the most significant moments for the special relationship between Britain and the US in decades.
Historian Sally Bedell Smith also said the current period is marked by deep instability on both sides of the Atlantic, making the visit even more important.
