What King Charles Is Expected to Discuss During US Visit

Monarch Likely to Focus on History and Unity, Not Politics

King Charles is expected to avoid political disputes during his upcoming visit to the United States and instead focus on the long-standing relationship between Britain and America.

As the monarch prepares for a four-day state trip, royal experts believe his meetings with Donald Trump will centre on diplomacy, shared history and future cooperation rather than current tensions.

The visit comes at a sensitive time for US-UK relations, with disagreements over Iran, Ukraine, NATO commitments and trade policy. Public differences between Donald Trump and Keir Starmer have also raised questions about the future of the alliance.

Royal historian Ed Owens told Vanity Fair that Charles is not expected to involve himself in political disagreements or favour either side.

According to Owens, the King will instead use his position to exercise soft power by speaking about the broader relationship between the two nations and the historic ties that have connected them for generations.

He suggested Charles would likely avoid mentioning tensions between the White House and Downing Street, choosing instead to emphasise the value of a partnership that has remained strong since the First World War.

Owens also said the visit could provide an important moment for the monarchy to stand out on the world stage.

Despite personal and royal challenges during the early years of his reign, he noted that Charles has performed strongly in international matters and may now be seen as a more influential figure abroad.

The expert added that at a time of global uncertainty, the Royal Family appears keen to highlight the importance of international cooperation and stability.
