Critics claim the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are creating further strain for the monarchy
Meghan Markle and Harry have once again come under criticism, with some commentators claiming the couple’s actions have harmed the Royal Family’s reputation.
During a discussion on GB News, commentator Jeff Banks strongly criticised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, arguing that their repeated public complaints about the monarchy have caused unnecessary damage.
Speaking to host Nana Akua, Banks said he believes the couple have not helped the institution they once represented.
“I think they're absolutely appalling as a couple. I think they're doing the Royal Family a big disservice,” he said.
Banks also suggested that Harry had been drawn into the situation through his relationship with Meghan Markle, claiming the prince had been “sucked into this whole thing.”
He went further, arguing that the pair’s actions appear to be aimed at undermining the monarchy, though he admitted he could not understand the motivation behind it.
However, Nana Akua pushed back against placing the blame on Meghan Markle alone. She argued that Harry should also be held responsible for the choices he makes.
“The only thing I would say is I do get a little bit annoyed when everyone blames the woman,” she said during the discussion.
Akua added that Harry is an adult capable of making his own decisions and should therefore share equal responsibility for the couple’s actions.
“If he wants to be sucked up and doing stupid things, it’s his decision too. I blame both of them equally,” she concluded.
The debate highlights the continued division among commentators and royal watchers over the role Meghan Markle and the Duke of Sussex now play outside the royal household, with opinions sharply split on whether their actions have helped or harmed the monarchy.
