Royal commentator suggests the Wales family used the holiday for private time in Norfolk
Prince William and Catherine kept their 2026 Easter celebrations largely out of the public eye, choosing instead to spend the holiday privately with their children.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes the couple likely used the break to focus on family time after a busy return to public duties following Catherine’s recovery from cancer.
Speaking to The Mirror, Bond said the Prince and Princess of Wales have recently resumed a full schedule of engagements across the country, making the Easter holiday an ideal moment to step back and enjoy time with their children.
She described their return to work as a noticeable shift, noting that the couple had been travelling frequently for royal duties. Because of that, she said it is understandable if they decided to make the most of the school holidays together as a family.
Bond also pointed out that William and Catherine hold roles that last a lifetime, with no retirement from their future responsibilities as King and Queen. For that reason, she believes taking time with their children now is both valuable and necessary.
According to Bond, the family likely spent much of the holiday at Anmer Hall in Norfolk, their country home on the Sandringham estate, where they often retreat for privacy.
She suggested the countryside setting offers the children freedom to enjoy the outdoors, from exploring the wide open spaces of the estate to playing on nearby beaches.
Bond added that family time may also include visits from Catherine’s parents, who are known to have a close relationship with William and Catherine and are often part of family gatherings.
Outdoor activities are thought to play a big role in the Wales family’s time together. Long walks with the dogs, beach outings and sports are all part of the lifestyle the couple encourage for their children.
Bond noted that Catherine, especially after her cancer diagnosis, has embraced spending as much time outdoors as possible and often encourages the children to do the same.
Life at Anmer Hall may also involve simple household routines. Bond suggested the children could be given small chores around the home, something William and Catherine believe helps teach responsibility and respect.
Both William and Catherine experienced life outside royal residences during their university years and while living in Anglesey earlier in their marriage. Bond believes they want their children to grow up with similar values, learning that everyday responsibilities still matter, even within a royal household.
