Commentator claims Easter post featuring their children raises questions about the couple’s messaging on privacy
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have come under criticism after the Duchess of Sussex shared new Instagram videos featuring their children, Archie and Lilibet, while the couple continues to speak publicly about privacy and the effects of social media.
The debate resurfaced after Meghan posted several clips on Instagram to celebrate Easter, wishing followers a “Happy Easter” while showing moments of the children taking part in an Easter egg hunt.
Royal biographer Duncan Larcombe discussed the post during a conversation with TalkTV host Mark Dolan, arguing that the couple’s public messaging about privacy appears inconsistent with sharing family moments online.
Larcombe said Harry and Meghan have frequently spoken about the importance of protecting children from the pressures of social media, yet their own posts sometimes include glimpses of their family life.
During the discussion, Dolan questioned whether the couple could maintain a strong stance on privacy while also sharing content involving their children on social platforms.
Larcombe responded that critics see the situation as contradictory, suggesting that the couple left the UK with the understanding they would step away from royal life, yet still remain highly visible through public appearances and international engagements.
He added that the situation raises questions about how the couple balance their calls for privacy with the way they present their personal lives online.
Larcombe also pointed out that although Meghan tends to avoid clearly showing the children’s faces in posts, they still appear regularly in the background of videos and photos shared with her followers.
The latest Instagram videos showed the children running during an Easter egg hunt, with only the backs of them visible. Even so, Larcombe suggested that some observers may still view the posts as at odds with the couple’s frequent warnings about the impact of social media on young people.
