Sarah Ferguson Warned Against BBC Newsnight Interview Amid Epstein Questions

Experts say the Duchess of York could face intense scrutiny over links to her ex-husband

Sarah Ferguson has reportedly declined an invitation to appear on BBC Newsnight, with experts suggesting the decision may help her avoid further damage to her public image.

The Duchess of York was said to have been approached for a major television interview, but brand and culture expert Nick Ede believes turning it down was likely the right choice.

Speaking to The Express, Ede explained that such an appearance could place Ferguson in a difficult position, particularly when questions about her former husband, Prince Andrew, inevitably arise.

“Fergie being offered a Newsnight mega interview may sound like a good idea because it’s a credible news programme,” he said.

However, he noted that the programme is also closely associated with Prince Andrew’s widely criticised 2019 interview, where he addressed his links to Jeffrey Epstein.

According to Ede, if Ferguson accepted the invitation, she would almost certainly face detailed questions about her relationship with Andrew and the controversies surrounding him.

“It’s the same show that highlighted her ex-husband’s relationship with Epstein,” he said. “No matter how prepared she is, she would be put in a position where she would have to speak openly about that relationship.”

He also suggested that comparisons with Andrew’s notorious interview would be unavoidable.

“She would constantly be compared to Andrew’s car crash moment,” he added. “Her image has already taken a hit, and it could suffer even more if she did a major interview like this.”

Ferguson was seen publicly earlier this week for the first time in seven months, but for now it appears she is choosing to avoid a high-profile television appearance that could bring renewed attention to past controversies.
