Monarch set for first American trip as king with key New York event on schedule
King Charles III is expected to travel to the United States next week for his first official visit as reigning monarch, with growing interest over whether he will meet Zohran Mamdani during the trip.
The king is scheduled to arrive on Monday, where Donald Trump and Melania Trump are expected to host a private tea for him and Queen Camilla.
On Tuesday, Charles is due to address Congress before heading to New York the following day.
According to reports, the king is expected to attend a wreath-laying ceremony at 9/11 Memorial & Museum on Wednesday, where Mamdani is also expected to be present alongside other elected officials. However, there has been no confirmation of a private meeting between the two.
A spokesperson for Mamdani said he had been invited to join several New York officials for the memorial event with members of the royal family.
The visit will mark the first time a British monarch has travelled to the United States since Queen Elizabeth II visited in 2007.
Charles's trip, set to conclude on Thursday, is intended to mark America’s 250th anniversary, commemorating the declaration of independence from British rule in 1776.
