Catherine has reportedly developed a close bond with Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, with royal commentators describing the Duchess as an important source of guidance and support.
The Princess of Wales, who entered royal life as an outsider much like Sophie once did, is said to have relied on the Duchess of Edinburgh for advice during her early years within the Royal Family.
Royal commentator Emily Andrews explained that Sophie was always willing to help younger women marrying into the monarchy, including Catherine and Meghan Markle.
“She had experienced it all herself,” Andrews noted, adding that Sophie was happy to act as a mentor figure because she understood the pressures of adapting to royal life.
Royal correspondent Victoria Murphy also described Sophie as a “natural mentor” for Catherine, saying their relationship has noticeably strengthened over the years.
Murphy pointed to a moment during the 2024 Remembrance Sunday service when Sophie gently placed a reassuring hand on Catherine’s back as they walked indoors together.
She described the gesture as warm and sisterly, saying it reflected the genuine closeness and trust shared between the two royal women.
