A royal commentator has suggested that Prince Andrew could help ease some of the Royal Family’s ongoing challenges by making a significant move abroad as scrutiny surrounding his links to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein continues.
Andrew, the father of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, has remained largely out of public view since stepping back from royal duties in 2019 following his controversial BBC interview about his relationship with Epstein.
Last year, Andrew announced he would give up his royal titles. Shortly afterwards, Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles had begun a formal process regarding the removal of the prince’s styles, titles and honours.
Earlier this year, Andrew also left Royal Lodge, three months after reports claimed the King had instructed him to give up the lease on the Windsor property.
Following those developments, royal expert Andrew Lownie suggested that Andrew could eventually relocate to the Middle East, a move he believes would benefit the monarchy.
“It’s a waiting game at the moment,” Lownie said. “I think Andrew may well end up in the Middle East. That would solve a lot of problems for the Royal Family, keep the story under wraps and get him away from public view.”
The expert also raised questions about the future of Andrew’s former wife, Sarah Ferguson, and how she will support herself financially in the years ahead.
“Sarah Ferguson is clearly not going to make money in the way she once did,” Lownie said. “It’s going to be a question of how she supports herself. Will she eventually receive some form of financial support from the Royal Family, or will she find another wealthy benefactor or partner? She’s no longer the figure she once was.”
While Andrew’s future remains uncertain, speculation continues over whether a move overseas could help the Royal Family distance itself from a controversy that has continued to cast a shadow over the monarchy.
