King Charles Marks Historic Royal Milestone at St Paul’s Cathedral

King Charles carried out an important royal duty this week as he attended a special service for the Order of St Michael and St George at St Paul’s Cathedral alongside the Duke of Kent.

The ceremony held particular significance as it marked the first time Charles attended the service as Sovereign of the Order since becoming monarch.

The historic occasion celebrated individuals recognised for their exceptional service in foreign affairs and overseas work, continuing a tradition that has long been linked to the British monarchy.

Buckingham Palace shared photographs from the event, showing the King dressed in ceremonial robes as he took part in the formal proceedings inside the cathedral.

In a statement shared with the images, the Palace said: “In recognition of outstanding service by those working in foreign affairs and overseas, The King and The Duke of Kent have attended a service for The Order of St Michael and St George at St Paul’s Cathedral.”

The statement also noted the royal history behind the order, adding: “The Order was founded by The Prince Regent, later King George IV, in 1818.”

It concluded by highlighting the importance of the day, saying: “Today’s service marked the first time The King has attended as Sovereign of the Order.”

While Charles took part in the historic ceremony, Queen Camilla carried out a separate engagement at The Fan Museum in Greenwich.

During her visit, the Queen was presented with the decorative fan featured in her official Coronation portrait painted by renowned artist Paul Benney.
