Princess Eugenie appears to remain firmly in King Charles’ good graces despite ongoing controversy surrounding her parents, according to royal commentators.
Royal expert Afua Acheampong-Hagan suggested the monarch’s latest move signalled clear support for Eugenie and reinforced her standing within the royal family.
Speaking to The Mirror, the commentator explained that Buckingham Palace’s involvement in sharing the announcement carried deeper meaning.
“I think it is interesting that, although there was a post on social media as well, that the official announcement came from Buckingham Palace,” she said.
According to the expert, the Palace’s decision showed Eugenie is still viewed favourably by senior royals.
“I think this does mean she is clearly still in favour with the royal family,” she added.
Afua also claimed the move offered Eugenie a level of protection during what she described as a delicate period.
“I think it also gives her a bit of protection at this time,” she noted, comparing the support to the care often shown to someone during a sensitive stage of life.
The commentator further explained that the Palace’s public backing carried a strong message.
“That kind of umbrella gathering in of the royal family announcing signifies, ‘She’s still under our wing, she’s under our protection, she’s taken care of’,” she said.
Afua added that the gesture could also be interpreted as a warning to critics.
“It’s kind of a bit of a ‘Back off, we’re protecting this girl, our granddaughter, our niece, at this delicate time, and that’s why we’re announcing’,” she explained.
The renewed attention comes as Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson continue facing scrutiny connected to their past links with convicted financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew previously stepped back from public royal duties following controversy surrounding his association with Epstein and allegations tied to the late financier. The Duke of York has repeatedly denied wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson has largely stayed away from the spotlight in recent months, with reports suggesting she has kept a lower public profile.
