Palace statement on Eugenie sparks talk of future role for York sisters

Buckingham Palace’s announcement about Princess Eugenie’s third pregnancy has sparked fresh discussion about the future role of the York sisters within the royal family.

The Palace publicly shared its support for Eugenie through an official statement, leading some royal commentators to believe King Charles is quietly showing unity with Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice despite the continuing controversy surrounding Prince Andrew.

Speaking on Sky News Australia, UK barrister and broadcaster Andrew Eborn described the announcement as a rare positive moment for the York family after years of difficult headlines connected to Andrew.

“It’s great to have this good news,” he said, adding that Eugenie and Beatrice had been “embroiled in all of this” controversy for years.

“So congratulations. It’s great news,” he continued.

Eborn also pointed to the Palace’s wording in the statement, which referred to the royal as “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie.” He suggested the use of her full title was notable at a time when speculation continues over whether the York sisters’ royal status could one day change.

“Well, here’s a very resounding endorsement of those two unfortunate girls,” he said.

“It’s good to have some positive press for those princesses. Well done to the Palace for endorsing them in this way.”
