Future King thanks Welsh rugby legend for years of “special memories”
Prince William has shared a heartfelt message following the retirement announcement of George North, praising the rugby star for his lasting impact on the sport.
Posting via the official social media account he shares with Catherine, the Prince of Wales reflected on North’s standout career and the moments that defined it. He highlighted one of the player’s most memorable performances during the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia, where North’s strength and pace left a lasting impression.
“Strength and speed on the pitch, George North at his very best,” William wrote, alongside a clip of the iconic moment. He added that North had given fans “so many special memories,” from Six Nations Championship triumphs with Wales to unforgettable international performances.
The future King concluded his message by thanking the player for his contribution to Welsh rugby, wishing him well for the next chapter, and signing off simply with “W.”
North, widely regarded as one of Wales’ finest players, confirmed he will retire from professional rugby at the end of the current season. In an emotional video shared on April 29, 2026, he said the decision felt like the “right time” after 16 years of living out his childhood dream.
The announcement came on a significant personal date for William, who marked his 15th wedding anniversary with Catherine on the same day.
