Tensions between Prince William and Prince Harry are reportedly still lingering, with claims that Harry’s past remarks about feeling “trapped” inside royal life deeply affected his older brother.
Former royal butler Grant Harrold weighed in on the situation while speaking to OLBG, explaining that life within the monarchy operates through a strict system that often prioritises duty over personal freedom.
According to Harrold, the Royal Family functions more like an institution than an ordinary household, with schedules and public engagements carefully planned months ahead. He noted that every day is highly structured, leaving little room for spontaneity.
Still, Harrold pointed out that members of the family are not forced to remain within the institution, referencing Harry and Meghan Markle stepping away from royal duties as proof that leaving is possible.
However, he believes Harry’s public comments may have frustrated William because of the very different positions the brothers hold within the monarchy.
Harrold suggested the heir to the throne likely viewed the situation differently, especially since William could never realistically make the same decision without triggering major constitutional consequences.
The former butler also reflected on the brothers’ younger years, recalling that both William and Harry appeared genuinely happy during their late teens and early adulthood while carrying out royal life.
He added that William is believed to hold many positive memories from that period, which may be why Harry’s criticism of royal life has been difficult for him to hear.
According to Harrold, those remarks may have “damaged some lovely memories” that the future king still values deeply.
