Royal family once issued rare statement mentioning Tom Cruise after film premiere

Royal fans are celebrating four years since Prince William and Catherine attended the London premiere of Top Gun: Maverick alongside Tom Cruise.

The event stood out as one of the rare occasions when the British royal family released an official statement connected to a major Hollywood film release, largely because the Prince and Princess of Wales were among the high-profile guests at the premiere.

Fans have been revisiting clips and photos from the evening, including moments shared between the royal couple and Cruise at Leicester Square in London.

At the time, the royal family said William and Catherine had “attended the UK premiere of Top Gun: Maverick at Leicester Square in London.”

According to the statement, the premiere was hosted by Paramount Pictures and The Film and TV Charity as part of the 72nd Royal Film Performance organised by the charity.

The Film and TV Charity supports people working behind the scenes in Britain’s film and television industry and played a significant role in helping workers affected during the pandemic.

The palace statement also noted that the Prince and Princess of Wales were welcomed at Leicester Square before walking the red carpet and meeting members of the cast, including Cruise and Miles Teller.

William and Catherine later met film executives, including director Joe Kosinski, as well as representatives from the charity before watching the film inside the auditorium.

Released in 2022, Top Gun: Maverick became a massive global success, earning nearly $1.5 billion worldwide and becoming one of the highest-grossing films in cinema history.
